Honda Motors has finally launched the highly awaited Jazz at function in New Delhi on Wednesday. Jazz is the first small car offered by Honda Motors for the small car market in India. So far Honda marketed only the mid-size cars City, Civic, Accord, and compact SUV CR-V in India.

Honda Jazz started its journey in 2001 in the United States and Japan as the Fit. Honda has gives the car an Indian identity by naming it Jazz and an India specific engine. The new hatchback is based on the highly successful new Honda City sedan. Honda Jazz is powered by the 1.2 litre SOHC i-VTEC engine which delivers 89 bhp power and 110 Nm of torque. The new engine is mated to a responsive 5-speed manual transmission which gives precise shifts. A progressive clutch helps complete the trio of three biggest advantages on a Jazz. Interestingly, the engine on Jazz is the same as the 1.5 litre i-VTEC engine fitted in new Honda City which helped Honda gain a reputation for performance and fuel economy.

The engine has a variable valve timing system (VVT) which gives seamless power output. The engine can deliver 16.1 km/l fuel economy, as per the certification by Automotive Research Association of India. Trying to be ahead of any other hatches in the European market is no easy task, but Renault seems to have the right ingredients for an amazing car. Just a few days ago in Geneva, the latest Renault Megane RS has been unveiled to the public and everyone seemed to love it. Inspired by the Trophy racer Megane, the new RS is definitely meaner and faster. With an agressive front grille splitter and big arches, a center-exit exhaust within the diffuser, bulging side sills and some intriguing two-tone alloys, you’ll have to admit that even if it’s a French car … it’s a damn good looking one.

Members of President Obama's auto task force are expected to face tough questions about America's ailing car industry when they appear at a congressional committee hearing today.

It is the first time White House representatives will face public scrutiny over the decision to use billions of dollars in taxpayers' cash to bail out General Motors (GM) and Chrysler.

Ron Bloom, the former investment banker who led the task force's labour negotiations, and Edward Montgomery, President Obama's director of recovery for auto communities and workers, will testify to the Senate Banking Committee in Washington this afternoon.

The hearing will review the use of funds from the Troubled Asset Relief Programme (Tarp) to put the two car companies through the Chapter 11 bankruptcy process.

The Government will provide up to $50 billion (£30.5 billion) to GM alone to get the carmaker back in operation, in return for a 60 per cent stake in the restructured company.

Christopher Dodd, the Democrat Senator who chairs the committee, is expected to press Mr Bloom and Mr Montgomery on how soon taxpayers can expect a return on their investments.

Republicans have already criticised the White House's decision to override US bankruptcy laws to save the carmakers and called on Chrysler to give its dealers more time to close down their businesses.

Chrysler, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on April 30, is expected to emerge as a restructured company within days, after the Supreme Court last night lifted a stay on the sale of the company's assets to a group led by Fiat, the Italian car group.

GM filed for Chapter 11 on June 1 and is expected to emerge from bankruptcy by August.
