On the outside, minus a few changes like the different tail lamps and the underlying air vents, Prindeville’s newest Murcielago proposal features the same carbon fiber bodykit as before. The company states that with the exception of the front compartment lid, all the other factory panels, including the roof, have been replaced and restyled.

What’s really different about the new ‘Murcielago by Prindeville’ is the supercar’s interior that has been completely overhauled. The entire cabin has been upholstered in a two-tone ostrich hide while other notable features include the precision-milled aluminum accents on the dashboard and the lower part of the center console.

To emphasize the attention to detail in the car’s interior, the company’s founder Alex Prindiville said: “The standard plastic air vents aren’t worthy of the rest of the interior, so although it was a complex and therefore costly procedure, we decided to manufacture replacements from aluminum.”

ACCORDING TO a trademark submission made by BMW, the company’s upcoming MINI crossover may wear the Countryman name.

The timing of the submission strongly supports speculation that the Countryman moniker will be used by the high-riding MINI SUV, which is expected to debut at the Frankfurt auto show in September.

The Countryman badge also has a history with the original Austin Mini, being used on the long-wheelbase wagon variants of the 1960s-era microcar. Given BMW-owned MINI’s recent revivals of other Mini names (Clubman, anyone?), the Countryman would be an apt choice for the new crossover.

Pre-production prototypes have been spotted orbiting Germany’s Nurburgring Nordshleife, and styling is expected to be faithful to that of the MINI Crossover Concept shown late last year at the Paris motor show (pictured).

The production model is expected to share the regular MINI’s transversely-mounted powerplants, however drive will be taken to all four wheels via an AWD system, instead of just the front axle.

The Countryman will also be larger than the MINI Cooper in every dimension, being a five-door hatch of a similar size to the upcoming BMW X1.

GTA is new at building production cars, but not to the world of high performance. A Spanish race team with a history of winning, GTA is in the process of realizing its dream of building a supercar among the most capable in the world. The resulting Spano certainly looks the part, be it on paper or in its muscular exterior design.

The GTA Spano’s design looks great from every angle, though it must be noted that the Spano borrows design cues from other acclaimed supercars, most notably the Saleen S7, Bugatti Veyron and modern Lamborghini designs. The rear end, with its louvered flank and windshield, call to mind Saleen S7 and Mustang designs. The C-to-A pillar section, with its rounded bubble shape, looks a little too Bugatti. And the sharply creased front end is so much like the Gallardo’s that some may mistake the GTA Spano for something from the Raging Bull.

GTA takes the Viper V10 and reengineers it for GTA Spano duty, where it can make up to 840 horsepower when running on E90 bioethanol race fuel. This is plenty of power when we are moving around a featherweight supercar weighing in at a large pizza less than 3000 lbs.

The Spano will run 0-62 in 2.9 seconds, all the way up to a governed–presumably for safety reasons–top speed of 217 mph. The Spano will debut in Europe soon with a limited production run of 99 units. A bargain in the rare-air supercar world.

Lotus makes a family sports car

Lotus Evora
Lotus EvoraThe Lotus Evora is the first all-new Lotus since the Elise roadster of 1996 (the coupe version called Exige joined the line-up in 2000) and the world's only production mid-engine 2+2.

"Evora is the biggest milestone Lotus has achieved since the Elise and is the start of our bold five year strategic business plan, which includes the introduction of three new cars and advanced new technologies to many more markets around the world," says Mike Kimberley, CEO of Group Lotus plc. "The Evora also represents Lotus core values of performance through light weight and efficiency, proving you can have performance, fuel economy, elegant design and practicality all in a class leading mid-engine 2+2 sports car, whilst also meeting all global safety and homologation standards"

Power comes from a Toyota 3.5-litre V6 (with Toyota's VVT-i variable valve timing system) producing 276 hp and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. Lotus developed its own engine management system to optimize unique outputs. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual (also from Toyota). Pavement grip is entrusted to unique Yokohama LTS performance tires (225/40 ZR18 up front ; 255/35 ZR19 in rear). The combination of a 0.337 coefficient of drag and weight at just over 1300 kg, allows the car to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in under five seconds, with a claimed top speed of 261 km/h.

Because it aims to reach a different type of buyer from the almostracecar like Elise and Exige models, Evora features a more refined cabin with elegant trim and extensive equipment list with contemporary features such as touch screen multimedia centre, extensive connectivity for mobile phones and portable audio devices, and power mirrors.

Access to the interior is also reportedly easier than with the smaller sports cars, with wider, taller door openings, narrower sills and a higher seating position that will reportedly accommodate two 99 percentile males (six foot five).

Future derivatives of the car are planned including, among others, a convertible model. Just 2,000 Evoras are planned for annual production on a dedicated assembly line in Hethel, England.
