Jaguar XF

Introduction

The Jaguar XF fuses sports car styling and performance with the refinement, features and space of a luxury saloon. XF embodies the Jaguar philosophy of creating beautiful, fast cars and defines a new driving experience: Sporting Luxury.

XF is the first expression of Jaguar´s new design language in a saloon car.

Coupe-like lines belie the amount of space. There is room for five adults in comfort, generous interior stowage and a boot capacity up to 540 litres (with Tyre Repair System fitted).

Interior design theme expresses contemporary, sporting luxury – emphasised by ´surprise and delight´ features such as the JaguarDrive SelectorTM and the rotating vents; through the use of sophisticated new materials and lighting systems.

The best torsional stiffness in class delivers both refinement and dynamic performance.

A choice of six derivatives

A range of four engines, all featuring Jaguar´s proven six-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted ´paddles´ for manual gear selection.

Three trim levels are available, Luxury, Premium Luxury and SV8.

Style

The first sporting saloon to deliver Jaguar´s stunning new design language. The profile is unique – athletic and assertive, the dramatic lines of a coupé envelop a spacious cabin with four doors and seating for five adults.

And the visual excitement is underpinned by the acknowledged strengths of Jaguar engineering and the latent power of XF´s dynamic character.

So its looks will engage you emotionally, and its driver-focused flavour will do the rest.

The strong grille creates a distinctive signature, emphasising a broad, solid stance. The low nose, rising waist, sweeping roof line and powerful shoulders combine to imbue visual dynamism. And the detailing is exquisite and subtle, from the woven mesh of the grille to the dramatically sculpted light clusters, from the side power vents to the large alloy wheels.

As well as space, the new XF´s interior ambience is enriched by crafted, luxurious materials, sophisticated instruments and calm interior mood lighting. Engineering excellence and attention to detail mean the XF´s interior matches the best-in-class for refinement, while Jaguar´s intelligent use of technology and driver-friendly Touch-screen controls add new layers of comfort and ease of use.

The XF epitomises Jaguar´s philosophy that good design does not have to be complicated. Compact design creates room for more creature comforts than ever before.

Halo illumination around the switch panels and Jaguar Drive Selector™ console, the start-stop button and Electric Parking Brake gives a soft glow that indicates their positions without distracting the driver. Soft, phosphor blue illumination is also used on the instrument dials, highlighting the sporting feel of the aluminium-coloured dials.

Performance

Jaguar knows that the heart of a great car is a great engine; the XF offers four, from one of the most refined diesels in its class – the 2.7 litre V6 turbodiesel to a supercharged 4.2-litre petrol V8 with 416hp, through a 3.0-litre V6 and 4.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol V8 that give refinement, flexibility and outstanding performance.

The XF´s six-speed automatic transmission is highly acclaimed. A transmission with superb characteristics evolved from Jaguar´s XK and XKR sports cars. Its exceptionally rapid fully adaptive shift system responds to both road conditions and the way the car is driven, to give the smoothest gear shifts and optimum performance, all the time.

The brief was unequivocal - the XF had to drive as it looks. Underpinned by the stiff platform, wide track and finely resolved suspension, steering and brakes, the XF´s dynamic flavour combines the comfort and refinement of a luxury saloon with the grip, balance, responses and stability of a sports car. The result is a dynamic character that delivers real driver involvement.

If sporting is one defining word for the XF, refined is another. A stiff structure, smooth powertrains, careful attention to acoustic management are all essential ingredients for outstanding quietness and comfort. Exceptional aerodynamics play their part, too, with low drag and low wind noise going hand in hand. At 50km/h on 18" wheels, the XF´s interior noise level is a barely audible 65.6dB. And like the XK, the XF´s V8 exhaust systems are tuned for an overtly sporty sound quality, just as the XF´s looks promise.

The XF has the best aerodynamic performance, in terms of drag, of any Jaguar production car ever. Its high tail, its coupe-like roofline and subtle raised boot lid lip all contribute to impressive aerodynamics. The XF´s drag coefficient is just 0.29 and the front-to-rear lift balance is precisely zero. This results in less wind noise, improved fuel consumption, strong high speed stability and, of course ideal handling balance.

Features

Jaguar´s intelligent use of technology plus the XF´s driver-friendly 7" Touch-screen control work perfectly together - to deliver ease of use, new levels of comfort, and neat, uncluttered space.

Many features remain hidden until they are actually needed – so the XF´s automatic climate control system includes rotating vents that roll quietly and smoothly out of sight when not in use.

With the lightest of touches JaguarSense™ activates the front interior lights and glovebox release. And with the option of JaguarVoice™, many other features can be accessed simply by asking.

The XF´s keyless entry system (standard on Premium Luxury and SV8 models) is a thoughtful feature that combines practicality with ease of use.

Get into the XF and the start button pulses red, like a heartbeat. Press this button and the cast alloy JaguarDrive Selector™ rises into the palm of your hand. Simultaneously, the rotating vents turn from their flush, ´parked´ position to their functional open position, and the navigation system initialises to its home page. The XF is ready to be enjoyed.

The XF´s JaguarDrive Selector™ throws off convention to set a new standard for automatic transmission control. Its rotary action is light, positive, intuitive.

Transmission positions are selected simply by turning the JaguarDrive Selector™ with the fingertips, or to go from D to S, by using a simple push and turn.

Bowers & Wilkins technology, exclusively used in Jaguar cars, is acclaimed by audiophiles, artists and recording engineers alike. The optional Bowers & Wilkins 440W sound system offers all occupants an experience of extraordinary clarity and faithful sound reproduction. By carefully selecting components, Bowers & Wilkins has created a system that delivers a powerful and vivid performance.

Jaguar´s second-generation Pedestrian Contact Sensing™ System is part of the XF´s safety armoury. The XF´s system builds on the acclaimed technology first introduced in the XK.

Jaguar knows that individuality and a creative mindset define the XF customer. From Blind Spot Monitor to Adaptive Cruise Control, from heated steering wheel to television and Portable Audio Interface, Jaguar XF promises you many luxurious options to choose from.

Ferrari F430

The F430 hails the arrival of a whole new generation of Ferrari V8-engined berlinettas. Every inch of the car was inspired by the engineering research carried out at Ferrari's Gestione Sportiva F1 racing division. The result is a highly innovative design characterized by cutting-edge technologies applied for use on a road-going car.

Two of these innovations are world firsts on high-performance sports cars: the electronic differential (E-Diff), originally developed by Ferrari for its F1 single-seaters, and the steering wheel-mounted commutator switch (the manettino) which directly controls suspension settings, the CST stability and traction control, the E-Diff and the change speed of the F1 transmission.

The F430's all-new 4,308 cc engine develops 483 bhp and 465 Nm (343 lb/ft) of torque. Needless to say, performance is outstanding: acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds flat and a maximum speed in excess of 195 mph. As well as an increase in performance. New aerodynamics provide even greater down force, with 616 lbs generated at 186 mph.

Other Ferrari Formula 1 influences can be seen in the optional carbon-ceramic discs, which offer superior stopping power, and the F1 paddle shifter, which effectively halves change times compared to the 360 Modena.

The F430 comes as standard with new 19" alloy wheels and adaptive suspension in a package that has been designed to deliver outstanding performance and maximum driving pleasure.

Design

The F430's shape, created in collaboration with Pininfarina, is inspired by the car's exceptional engineering. Each and every styling cue highlights the aggression and performance of a thoroughbred Ferrari yet respects the functional demands of this kind of car. In design terms, little has been carried over from the outgoing 360 Modena. The result is a new berlinetta with an even stronger personality and a more muscular stance.

The F430's nose is characterized by two distinctive air intakes that channel air into generously dimensioned radiators to cool the powerful engine. Their shape draws inspiration from the Ferrari 156 F1 that Phil Hill drove to his F1 World Championship title in 1961. The two intakes are linked at their lower edge by a spoiler that directs air towards the car's flat underbody. The F430's vertically stacked headlights are extremely compact thanks to the use of Bi-xenon technology. When the lights are on, the unique shape of the side light incorporated into the outer edge of the headlight, emphasizes the profile, making the car immediately recognizable even at night. Large air vents just ahead of the front wheels channel the air out of the radiators and along the car's flanks.

The Enzo Ferrari was the inspiration for much of the rear styling of the new F430. The type and arrangement of the lights are the same with the latter protruding prominently from the bodywork. Another similarity is the shape of the air vent for the engine with the chrome Prancing Horse at its center.

Extreme care was also lavished on designing the exterior details. The side mirrors, for example, now have specially profiled twin mounting arms that channel airflows to the engine intakes. The F430 name has also been embossed on the back of the driver's side mirror.

Interior

The F430's interior has been redesigned for improved driver ergonomics. The instruments are housed in a new binnacle, and this design together with the layout of the dashboard underlines the care that has gone into grouping all the major controls in front of the driver within easy reach. The same uncompromising approach to driver control was the inspiration behind mounting the starter button and manettino on the steering wheel.

The interior reflects the advanced technology and materials employed in the car's construction, and can be personalized with carbon-fiber or aluminum inserts. The cockpit is noticeably larger. Already excellent passenger comfort is improved thanks to a slimmer central tunnel which houses the gear lever turret on the manual version and the F1 console on the paddle-shift version. There is additional space behind the rear seats, with a new electrically operated compartment for storage and catch netting to the rear fire wall. The seats have been redesigned for greater lateral containment and by a sporty race-derived seat with supportive side bolsters.

The Carrozzeria Scaglietti personalization program is Ferrari's way of ensuring that its relationship with each of its clients is absolutely unique. The program offers F430 owners a range of racing and styling features and personalized finishes so wide that the possible combinations are virtually limitless. A total of 16 bodywork colors, 12 leather colors and eight colors for the carpets are available. The personalization options are divided into four main areas: Racing and Track, Exteriors and Colors, Interiors and Materials, Equipment and Travel.

Technical

The F430 is powered by a new 90° V8 featuring Ferrari's traditionally uncompromising design approach with a flat-plane crank (180° between throws). This is an all-new unit that does not share any components with the 360 Modena's engine. The improvement in terms of performance, weight and reduction of overall dimensions is the result of applying Ferrari's wealth of F1 experience to its road cars.

One of the technical features that sets the F430 apart is the E-Diff or electronic differential. This solution is used for years in F1 single-seaters and has been continuously developed and refined, effectively transferring massive torque levels to the track under extremely high cornering g-forces. The E-Diff is now standard equipment on the F430 - the first time that a production car has been equipped with such a sophisticated system for high-performance road holding. On the track, the E-Diff helps provide maximum grip out of turns designed to eliminate wheel spin.

Just like in Formula 1, the F430 driver can change the set-up of his car using the innovative selector set on the steering wheel. The manettino is a rotary switch that has been adopted directly from racing, where the driver's total commitment to driving requires maximum efficiency and speed in controlling the car's various functions. This switch quickly and simply controls the electronics governing suspension settings, the CST stability and traction control, E-Diff and the change speed of the F1 transmission, as well as the integration between each of these individual functions.

Nissan 350Z Roadster

Highlight

The 350Z ROADSTER employs cutting edge technology to make the most of traditional sports car values. A new all-alloy engine makes exploiting the brilliantly balanced handling easier while state-of-the-art aerodynamics ensure going topless is always a pleasure.

The headlights employ the latest bi-xenon technology for improved safety. At night increased beam width improves vision to the side while projector mountings let you focus further up the road, giving more time to react to potential danger.

You can lift the lid on the 350Z ROADSTER in 20 seconds. When the vinyl roof’s up, a single-latch triple-lock system keeps the cabin wind and water tight, even at high speed. And there’s a heated glass rear window for good visibility in all conditions. At the push of a button the soft top automatically stows behind the front seats beneath a lightweight tonneau that incorporates a pair of racy looking aerodynamic humps.

Interior & Exterior

From the outside the 350Z ROADSTER is as eye-catching to look at as it is entertaining to drive. Inside the well-equipped cabin the ride is as comfortable as it is thrilling.

The emphasis inside the 350Z ROADSTER is on form and function. An example is the redesigned centre console which is easier to access, thereby improving storage for both driver and passenger. We’ve even illuminated the cup holders and ignition key lock so they’re easier to find at night.

Close attention has been paid to the design of every detail on the 350Z ROADSTER. From the sweep of the headlamps to the contours of the uniquely designed door handles; the twin exhausts sculpted from stainless steel to the wind-cheating wing mirrors. Making the most of this work of art are three new metallic colours: Twilight Grey, Night Blue and dynamic Rosso Red.

Performance

The throaty exhaust note, punchy acceleration, poise and grip round corners and awesome stopping power all betray the 350Z ROADSTER’s sports car credentials.

The 3.5-litre V6 beneath the bonnet doesn’t rely on turbochargers and superchargers. We wanted to keep it as pure as possible to maximise driver enjoyment. So we applied racing car technology to the new all-alloy engine. The result is a muscular 313PS power plant that pulls strongly in any gear from low in the rev range all the way to the 7,500rpm limit.

The 350Z ROADSTER’s weight has been deliberately spread to ensure the handling puts a smile on your face. By having a low centre of gravity and mid-platform weight distribution, traction on the turn-in to corners is maximised. Under acceleration out of a bend, weight shifts to the rear, boosting grip to the wheels that transmit power to the road.

Safety

Precise handling, powerful braking and racing car inspired safety features give drivers the confidence to enjoy the 350Z ROADSTER’s ample talents.

When you hit the middle pedal on the 350Z ROADSTER, rest assured that state of the art systems will bring you to a halt. Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) allocates maximum braking to the wheels with the most grip. In an emergency Nissan Brake Assist (NBA) applies extra stopping pressure to the pedal. And the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) prevents wheels locking so the driver retains steering control.

For extra reassurance the 350Z ROADSTER is equipped with front and side airbags. This advanced passenger protection system can determine impact levels and deploy the airbag with the minimum force necessary for maximum safety.
